[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Mormugao Port Trust had taken steps for constructing the 4-lane port road connectivity way back in 1998. This road which starts from Verna Junction and connects the Port is 18.3 km long.  Unfortunately, due to encroachment issues the Port could construct only 13.1 km from Verna Junction to Varunapuri and the remaining 5.1 km remained uncompleted.  Cargo evacuation at Mormugao Port is the single biggest constraint for both rail as well as road connectivity.  The road connectivity in particular is very poor since trucks have to move through highly congested city of Vasco-da-Gama.  This results in severe restrictions in movement of trucks, which again affects the port’s efficiency.

The balance portion of the 4-lane project is now being implemented by the Govt. of Goa.  The work has been awarded to M/s. Gammon India Ltd., Mumbai at the cost of Rs. 397 crores on 14.10.2014.  So far about 27% of the work has been completed.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
