Arvind Parikh chosen for Padma Bhushan honour

Mr Arvind Parikh, a doyen of the Indian classical music world as well as the Indian logistics industry, has been chosen for the prestigious Padma Bhushan honour by the Government of India for his distinguished contribution to the field of Music. The awards were announced on the eve of Republic Day 2018.

Mr Parikh is Chairman of the Lemuir Group, a leading logistics solutions provider.

Pandit Arvind Parikh, as he is known in the world of Indian classical music, is a globally renowned sitar player with a performing career spanning over six decades, across the country and throughout the globe, including at leading music festivals. His soulful, contemplative, meditative and introspective approach towards music, huge collection of authentic Bandishes (compositions) and scientific approach of teaching have won critical acclaim and the respect of the cognoscenti in India and abroad.

A man of many facets, Mr Parikh’s musical involvement encompasses being an incisive musicologist, leading performer, dedicated teacher, eminent cultural ambassador, and a veritable powerhouse of initiatives aimed at promoting the interests of Indian classical music in India and abroad.

Last month, Mr Parikh was also awarded the Fellowship of the Sangeet Natak Akademi at the hands of the President of India.
