Coal India floats global tender for methanol plant at Dankuni

October 1, 2020: Coal India (CIL) has floated an open global tender inviting bids for setting up a first of its kind coal-to-Methanol plant through surface coal gasification route on build own operate model.

Total investment for the project would cost Rs.6000 Cr. Based on the outcome of the pre-feasibility studies CIL has floated tender for selecting an operator for the whole lifespan of the plant expected to be 25 years. This is part of the Methanol Economy Programme of the government aimed at reducing the country’s oil import blll.
