Dighi Port receives Capesize vessels

Dighi Port Ltd docked another Capesize vessels MV PS Palios and MV Genco Maximus carrying coal cargo last week. PS Palios and Genco Maximus are bulk carrier Cape vessels. Dighi Port was the second port of call. “This was another feather in the cap of Dighi Port. The Port is located in Raigad district on west coast of Maharashtra,” said Mr Vijay Kalantri, Chairman and Managing Director, Dighi Port Ltd.

Dighi Port is the first greenfield port in Maharashtra, being developed as a multi-purpose, multi-cargo and all-weather port with deep draught, direct berthing facilities and state-of-the-art cargo handling equipment with adequate stockyards and warehousing facilities. Since commissioning, the Port has successfully handled post-Panamax and Capesize vessels having a DWT of up to 1,55,000 MTs at two multi-purpose berths having 650 m length and up to 12.5 m draught. Average discharge rate at the Port has been in excess of 10,00 MTs per hour with mobile harbour cranes. The Port has handled approximately 1.25 million MTs of cargo in the last year and over 3.5 million MTs till date. The Port also has a liquid terminal with 36 tanks constructed with a capacity of 100,000 cu. m. Dighi Port has been regularly receiving cargo like coal, steel, HR and CR coils, steel scrap, MOP, bauxite, bitumen, black carbon and other break-bulk and bulk cargoes from time to time.

Dighi Port is a preferred port of choice with well-equipped capacity of handling Capesize vessels with multiple cargo up to 30 million tons supported by rail and road connectivity located as a gateway to Maharashtra, Karnataka and the neighbouring part of Gujarat, thereby benefiting importers on account of high efficiency leading to faster turnaround of vessels and saving freight cost, said a release.
