DP World operated Nhava Sheva (India) Gateway Terminal (NSIGT), introduces another pioneering initiative in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of Digital India.
Automated Gates, powered by Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Technology, are being introduced for the first time in India’s Ports Sector at NSIGT. DP World has always been a pioneer in technological advancements and in facilitating “ease-of-doing-business”.

This futuristic technology can establish single transaction in less than three seconds and will enable NSIGT to have a faster gate turnaround time from the current five minutes to less than sixty seconds. The Automated Gates will further enhance operational efficiency and productivity and ensure seamless movement of cargo by eliminating man and machine interface.

It is a revolutionary technology, implemented to demonstrate enhancement in efficiency to facilitate the ease of doing business and is believed to be highly beneficial to the port community and the trade at large. The gates were inaugurated by Dr. John Joseph Chief Commissioner – Customs, Dr. C Dhananjaya Naik, Senior Commandant, CISF, Mr. Ashish.S.Pednekar, President, BCHAA, Mr. Anil Wats, Group Chief Operating Officer and other top dignitaries from the trade fraternity.

Mr. Anil Singh, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, DP World Subcontinent said, “In line with our vision ‘To Lead the Future of World Trade,’ we constantly seek to introduce new services and technology to strengthen global supply chain for the benefit of the EXIM trade. With NSIGT, ‘Automated Gates,’ we will be unfolding a new chapter in India’s ports sector. The futuristic technology launched to provide smart trade solutions for our customers, to facilitate the ease of doing business and to benefit the port community and the trade at large.”

NSIGT is a model for future port developments in India and features numerous firsts for India’s ports sector. This new technology will permit quick truck turnaround time and alleviate delays, elimination of manual interface and introduction of digital process creates a paperless transaction and readily retrievable data on demand.

The terminal is equipped with remote-operated quay cranes capable to handle the next-generation large size vessels. These cranes also enable the terminal to log higher productivity and operational efficiencies with better safety standards. Also, for the first time at JNPT, revolutionary Electrical Rubber-Tyred Gantry cranes (ERTGs) are being deployed in the container yard. These cranes not only provide high productivity at low operations cost, but will also have a minimal carbon footprint.
