Germany’s Wilhelmshaven Freight Village Container Terminal and NCT agree on MoU

Wilhelmshaven Freight Village Container Terminal and Navayuga Container Terminal (NCT, Krishnapatnam Port) have reached a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on June 27, 2019 in Chennai to mutually increase Indo-German trade.

The management of Wilhelmshaven Freight Village Container Terminal, Mr Andreas Bullwinkel, Chairman and Mr Ingo Meidinger, Director last week toured Navayuga Container Terminal to discuss synergies between the two entities.

Present at the signing was Ms Vinita Venkatesh, Director, NCT and Ms Neelam Choudhary, representative of Port of Wilhelmshaven in India, among others.

The key highlight is that both ports have deep draught of 18 m which offers an excellent opportunity for deployment of larger vessels. This is promising for the trade as capacity build-up will not be a constraint to meet the growth aspiration of this trade, stressed a release.

India and Germany are traditional and established trade partners with ex-im trade in granite, engineering goods, cotton, tobacco, newsprint, seafood, metal scrap, etc. The two countries have been involved in bilateral relations for over half a century.

This MoU will work towards bringing cost and time efficiencies to this trade, the release added.

Port of Wilhelmshaven partnership with FreightBro

Meanwhile, FreightBro Logistics Pvt. Ltd has partnered with Port of Wilhelmshaven, Germany as their official digital partner with the aim to facilitate trade and digital transformation of shipping. Germany’s only deep water port, situated between the river Ems and Wesern, Port of Wilhelmshaven is a significant central transhipment location for bulk commodities such as petroleum products, chemical products, coal and crude oil. Wilhelmshaven’s significance as a port is of paramount importance as it ensures secure energy supply in Germany.

The partnership promises both Port of Wilhelmshaven and FreightBro access to each other’s market and connection with stakeholders in the respective countries. As the official digital partner of the port, shipping through Port of Wilhelmshaven will prove to be lucrative for forwarders on the FreightBro platform.
