JBS Academy Pvt. Ltd, the vocational education arm of the Ahmedabad-based JBS Group of Companies, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of Gujarat for skill development activities in the logistics and supply chain management sector at the 8th Vibrant Gujarat Global Business Summit 2017 held earlier this month in Gandhinagar. The agreement envisages an investment of Rs 2.5 crore and promises to provide education and employment to around 1,200 job seekers in the sector, said a release.

The agreement was signed at the Gandhinagar Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, in presence of Mr Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

“It is an honour for JBS Group to be a part of something visionary, and contribute to the Skill India Initiative taken up by our honourable Prime Minister. This is a key step towards training in logistics sector, with Gujarat being a manufacturing giant. The state has a huge scope of employment in this field, yet faces a dearth in the human resource supply,” said Mr Samir J. Shah, Chief Mentor and Director, JBS Academy.

As per a study done by IL&FS, estimates show that the logistics sector contributes 13 per cent to India’s GDP and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 9 per cent per annum. Comparatively, the US stands at 9 per cent, Europe at 10 per cent and Japan at 11 per cent. With the scheduled implementation of uniform GST, the predicted growth could actually be more, the release pointed out.

The Academy, with the objective of reaching out to the maximum number of job aspirants, had earlier too sealed MoUs with other educational institutes like TeamLease Skills University, Vadodara, Vidhya Bhawan Trust (Navgujarat Group of Colleges) and B. D. College (GLS Group), for providing skill training and placement in logistics. Moreover, the 23 courses of the Academy have been approved by the National Council of Vocational Training and Gujarat Council of Vocational Training. This apart, JBS Academy also works with the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development as a training partner, the release highlighted.
