JNPT organised training programme on ‘Engineering & Procurement’

JNPT (Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust), India’s number one container port organised a five-day seminar on ‘Engineering & Procurement’ as part of their industry skill development initiative. These seminars and workshops are conducted at the JNPT APEC Training Centre which is a state-of-the-art training institute in collaboration with APEC-Antwerp/Flanders Port Training centre and the Port of Antwerp. The courses at the Training Centre happen around the year and are designed to enhance the skill and knowledge of the port professionals, which helps in enhancing the overall efficiency and quality of port services across India and Asia.

The seminar on ‘Engineering & Procurement’ was led by senior industry stalwarts like Mr. Sanjay Kumar, IRSS(DFCCIL), Mr. Gijsbert Van Holland, International Marine& Dredging Consultants NV and Mr. Laxman Rajwani, GGM, Tractebel Engg. The seminar focused on all engineering aspects related to the port and an in-depth understanding into workings of procurement and its importance in port strategy. The course also provided insights on port /harbour design and management. It also offered the delegates an overview on global business from a strategic and operational perspective. The course also included a tour of the JNPT port to see the operations of the port, followed by a training session on soft skills, by Dr.JayashreeFadnavis.

Commenting on the training program, Shri.Neeraj Bansal, IRS, Chairman-in-Charge said, “We started the JNPT APEC Training Centre with the aim to provide timely skill and knowledge upgrade to the port professionals so that they are abreast with the latest trends in the industry. This will thus enhance the overall efficiency and quality of the port services. We are overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of the participants and the immense support from Antwerp Port, which makes these courses such a resounding success.”

The seminar had delegates from across major ports of India such as Mumbai Port, V.O. Chidambaranar, Kolkata, Haldia Dock Complex, Kamarajar Port, Deendayal, JNPT and New Mangalore Port and Paradip Port Trust.They expressed their appreciation to faculty and JN Port officials for organising such training programmes which is very helpful in improving their performance and the in-depth coverage of various topics in the training programme.
