India Bulk & Project Cargo Summit

Gateway Knowledge Forum, a unique platform that brings together the industry, trade and the government to debate and deliberate on the most pressing issues, brings to you India Bulk & Project Cargo Summit, a highly focussed event on bulk and project cargo.

India BulkBulk cargo, be it dry or wet, plays a very crucial role in the country’s economic development. While iron ore and coal are the two major commodities under dry bulk, crude and POL rule the roost in the wet bulk segment.

India’s energy security is very much linked to the movement of the coal and crude and this calls for a need to take stock of existing demand and supply, market trends, modes of transportation and their cost efficiencies. This one-day conference focusses on the movement of bulk cargo – both ocean and inland movement. The event brings to table discussions and presentation on the various issues (national and regional) in bulk cargo transportation and attempts to address the pressing ones through collective deliberation.

Apart from bulk cargo, movement of project cargo is gaining prominence across the country. With power sector sanctioning power plants to meet the growing power demand, the project cargo industry is all set to experience a boom period in the coming years. But the issues pertaining to movement of project / over dimensional cargo (ODC) still remain.

Bottlenecks like poor infrastructure at ports, bad roads and weight restrictions hinder the growth of this industry. The event highlights all these issues and looks at bringing together all the stakeholders like port operators, transporters, transport authorities and users onto a single platform to express their views and build efficient business relationships.

Structure
This one-day event will have four dedicated panel discussions for specific issues of bulk and project cargo.

SESSION I : Business Track Download Background Paper

Theme : Bulk Cargo: Opportunities and Challenges
The session looks at opportunities and challenges in the growth of bulk cargo. Demand-supply analysis and projections will be dealt with in this session. The resident opportunities and challenges for transporters of bulk cargo will be discussed at length in this session.

SESSION II : Transportation Track Download Background Paper

Theme : Coastal Shipping and IWT: Can we make them viable?
The session highlights the lesser used yet cost-efficient modes of transportation for bulk cargo. Coastal shipping and inland waterways are two modes that are costefficient but are currently rendered unattractive due to market dynamics and the policy regime. This session will discuss the inherent benefits and the bogging issues and attempts to bring out recommendations to the government and the industry.

SESSION III: Project Cargo Track Download Background Paper

Theme : Keeping Pace with Demand
This session will focus on the potential for project cargo in the country. As the project cargo volumes are expected to increase exponentially, it is prudent to discuss and deliberate on building efficiencies in movement of this type of cargo. The session will also throws light on movement of project cargo through inland water ways and the issues involved therein.

SESSION IV: Technology Track Download Background Paper

Theme : Bulk handling: Operational Efficiency through Technology
The final session will have the technology related issues in bulk cargo handling. It highlights new trends in equipment like cranes, trucks, conveyor systems, stock yard equipment, dusting systems etc. The safety and environment angles will also be discussed here.
