At 367 meters in length, and 43 meters wide the Gerd Maersk lists a gross registered tonnage of 98,648 tons. The previous record for largest vessel call at APM Terminals Mumbai was the 9,640 TEU capacity Chastine Maersk, on 11th February 2017. The current record for the largest vessel call at an Indian port was the 13,103 MSC Cristina in April 2016, at Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNP).

“Ultra-Large Container Ships of the size of the Gerd Maersk now calling APM Terminals Mumbai indicates how far Indian ports and terminals have come in improving infrastructure to meet today’s global logistics chain requirements” noted APM Terminals Mumbai CEO Kamal Jain, who went aboard the vessel to commemorate the occasion and welcome the ship’s Captain.  The Gerd Maersk is part of the FM3 service linking JNP and Northern India to Far-east Asia.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
