The Centre has proposed the development of a ₹850 crore Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) at Nashik in Maharashtra as part of efforts to streamline supply chains and lower logistics costs under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan. The proposal was disclosed by Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
The planned facility is envisaged as a large, integrated freight hub that will bring together road and rail connectivity, with provision for storage, material handling and distribution infrastructure. In addition to core logistics functions, the park is expected to support value-added activities such as sorting, grading, packaging, labelling and light assembly.
According to the government, MMLPs play a critical role in improving logistics efficiency by enabling seamless movement of cargo across multiple transport modes from a single location. This helps cut transportation and handling costs, improves transit times, enhances inventory management and supports end-to-end cargo visibility. The projects are also expected to generate employment and provide a boost to regional industries once operational.
The Nashik MMLP is proposed to be developed by National Highway Logistics Management Ltd (NHLML), a company under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, with an estimated investment of ₹850 crore. The project is currently at the appraisal stage and is awaiting approvals.
Once cleared, the development is planned to be executed in three phases, with the first phase targeted for completion within three years of approval. The facility is designed to integrate road and rail transport, ease urban freight congestion and improve overall logistics efficiency in the region.
Strategically located, the proposed site offers strong connectivity through major highways and the Mumbai–Nagpur railway corridor, and lies about 220 km from Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT). The government said the project would complement JNPT’s role as the country’s largest container port while strengthening Maharashtra’s logistics and freight ecosystem.
