Postal shipments for the USA, Netherlands, Israel and Russia have been suspended temporarily by the Sri Lankan authorities due to the suspension and restriction of flights to Sri Lanka due to fuel crisis.
Postmaster Ranjith Ariyaratne told Daily Mirror negotiations are underway with foreign airlines to resume mail transportation to the above destinations.
He said that due to the difficulty in providing sufficient fuel, there has been a delay in the mail transport activities within the country.
Sri Lanka is facing an acute fuel shortage for the past several months.
Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera on Saturday said a consignment of diesel has arrived in the Colombo port.
He said quality sample checking of the fuel is currently underway.
The Sri Lankan minister said the second ship carrying diesel will also arrive later today and the similar procedure will follow before unloading and distribution could commence.
