Norwegian shipowner Aasen Shipping is continuing its fleet renewal drive with another environmentally advanced newbuild at Royal Bodewes. The Mosterhamn-based company has confirmed an order for a sixth hybrid-powered, methanol-ready self-discharging bulk carrier, strengthening a long-running collaboration with the Dutch shipbuilder.
The new vessel, measuring nearly 120 metres, will join the series of 9,400 dwt battery-hybrid self-dischargers that Aasen has been adding to its fleet since 2020. Delivery of the latest ship is scheduled for late 2027.
In line with its predecessors, the bulker will be equipped with a substantial battery system designed to support peak-shaving for both the main engine and auxiliary machinery. It will also feature fully electric cargo-handling equipment, enabling zero-emission loading and discharging in ports that offer shore-power connectivity. Built with methanol-ready specifications, the vessel will be capable of converting to green fuel operation as the technology and supply chains mature.
Family-owned since its establishment in 1981, Aasen Shipping operates a fleet of about 15 self-discharging bulk carriers ranging from 6,000 to 9,500 dwt. The latest order underscores the company’s continued investment in cleaner tonnage and advanced self-discharging capabilities to support its European coastal operations.
