Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) has shown interest in joining the ₹76,200 crore Vadhvan port project in Maharashtra, a greenfield development near Palghar set to become one of India’s largest container hubs with a planned capacity of 24.5 million TEUs.
The project is being developed by Vadhvan Port Project Ltd, a special purpose vehicle of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) and the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB). Phase-1 is targeted to handle 6.85 million TEUs by 2030, with capacity ramping up to 23.2 million TEUs in Phase-2.
According to APSEZ mega projects like Vadhvan are essential for achieving India’s goal of 10 billion tonnes of port capacity by 2047, and with a 33% market share target, APSEZ must be part of this capacity expansion.
In parallel, APSEZ is expanding capacity across its existing ports—Mundra, Hazira, Gangavaram, Vizhinjam and Colombo—focusing particularly on the fast-growing container cargo segment.
