The newly inaugurated Integrated Cargo Terminal (ICT) at Ahmedabad airport has quickly established itself as the city’s primary freight gateway, handling nearly 70% of international cargo traffic within just a month of operations. Industry sources estimate that the terminal has already processed around 5,000 metric tonnes of international freight, alongside a similar volume of domestic cargo.
Built over 21,000 sq. m. with expansion potential up to 33,000 sq. m., the ICT has seen a swift shift by major airlines. Air India, Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Singapore Airlines have already moved their cargo handling to the new facility, while Blue Dart and SpiceJet are set to follow shortly.
In FY25, Ahmedabad airport managed approximately 60,000 MT of cargo (domestic and international), with 20,000 MT recorded between April and July this fiscal. With the ICT in place, throughput is projected to rise significantly, with long-term capacity expected to reach 200,000 MT of cargo per month.
The ICT offers faster turnaround, seamless connectivity, and stronger compliance with international safety norms compared with older, capacity-constrained facilities. It currently manages a diverse cargo mix, including perishables, pharmaceuticals, courier shipments, and engineering exports.
The upgrade comes at a crucial time for Gujarat’s export-oriented economy, where pharmaceuticals, chemicals, textiles, and engineering goods continue to drive freight growth. Industry experts expect the new terminal to enhance trade facilitation and strengthen Ahmedabad’s role as a logistics hub for western India.
