E-commerce platforms Flipkart and Amazon have stopped delivering non-essential good in Delhi after the lockdown was imposed in the city by the government. The lockdown was imposed in Delhi on Monday and it will be lifted on April 26 at 5 am. As per the latest lockdown guidelines, the government has only allowed the delivery of essential goods. Earlier, Maharashtra had suspended the delivery of non-essential goods through e-commerce.

Confirming the same, Amazon India spokesperson said in a statement, “Customers trust Amazon.in to safely deliver all products according to their respective needs. Currently, we are enabling deliveries of essential products in line with new guidelines set by the Government. However, we have learned from customers over the last one year that urgent needs vary across households and it is challenging to define a static essentials list. We request the Delhi Government to allow delivery and inter / intra state movement of all products to enable people to maintain social distancing norms. Ecommerce is the safest way to serve consumers’ needs while supporting livelihoods of lakhs of small & medium businesses including the local shops.”

Flipkart is yet to issue a statement about the same.

The goods that fall under the non-essential category include food, medicines, medical equipment. Amazon and Flipkart will accept orders of other good as well but the delivery of the same will not be as prompt as it used to be before the lockdown. The chances are that you will get your goods after the lockdown is lifted. On the other hand, the food delivery platforms will also continue delivering food during the state-imposed lockdowns.
