Apeejay Shipping, part of the Apeejay Surendra Group, has acquired the 3,000-tonne multi-purpose container vessel APJ Karan 2, equipped with two 60-tonne cranes, to launch a dedicated scheduled service from Kolkata to Port Blair in the Andaman Islands.

The vessel’s maiden voyage is set for March 2026, operating regular departures to handle containerized, bulk, and project cargo, strengthening maritime connectivity and logistics infrastructure for the region’s trade and economic growth.

This expansion follows Apeejay’s recent addition of two Kamsarmax bulk carriers—APJ Priya 2 and APJ Priti 2—inducted in July-August 2025, underscoring the company’s fleet modernization to support domestic coastal shipping under India’s Sagarmala initiative.

Local associate Ebrahim Jadwet of the Y.E. Jadwet Group will coordinate operations in the Andamans, enhancing supply chain reliability for island commerce and development projects.
