Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) will invest up to 100 million dollars in an AI-driven operating and optimisation platform to automate and streamline operations across its container terminal network.
Under an expanded multi-year partnership with US-based software firm Kaleris, the AI-enabled terminal operating system and optimisation tools will be deployed at 15 APSEZ container terminals spanning nine Indian and overseas ports. The roll-out, to be implemented in two phases, is part of a wider 850 million dollar technology and decarbonisation plan under the company’s 2031 roadmap.
APSEZ expects the digital platform to deliver measurable productivity gains, including up to a 20% improvement in Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) crane performance and around a 14% increase in terminal truck productivity. These efficiency gains are projected to unlock an additional 91 million tonnes of annual cargo handling capacity by 2030, equivalent to roughly 10% of its installed capacity, and support the group’s longer-term ambition of handling one billion tonnes of cargo.
Ashwani Gupta, Whole-time Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), APSEZ, said, “AI-enabled automation will define the next frontier of competitiveness in ports and logistics. While APSEZ has already deployed an end-to-end digital platform from shore to door, which provides seamless track-and-trace and integrated command and control capabilities, the Kaleris integration will enhance productivity, improve turnaround time, and consistently deliver a superior customer experience.”
Kirk Knauff, President and CEO, Kaleris, said: “APSEZ is demonstrating the real impact of an AI-enabled port network at scale. Expanding to all 15 terminals reflects the results already achieved and the trust behind this partnership. At Kaleris, we measure success by customer outcomes, and with N4 and our Advanced Optimization solutions, those results can now be amplified across the entire network.”
