Ashdod Port Company has unveiled an ambitious infrastructure development plan valued at around NIS 1.5 billion ($458 million) aimed at boosting efficiency, capacity, and sustainability across its operations.

The comprehensive investment programme encompasses a range of modernisation and optimisation projects designed to transform existing quays into specialised terminals tailored for distinct cargo types. This strategic shift toward terminal specialisation is expected to streamline cargo handling, improve turnaround times, and reinforce Ashdod Port’s status as a critical national logistics hub.

Key components of the plan include the procurement of 12 electric rubber-tyred gantry (ERTG) cranes as part of a broader target to acquire 34 cranes by 2030, the construction of a new dedicated electrical substation, and expansion of the container yard behind Quay 21 to accommodate an additional 4,000 containers.

The investment will also cover the installation of advanced jib cranes to enhance operations at Quays 7 and 9, which are being upgraded for general cargo and bulk handling. These cranes, featuring a working radius of 48 metres and a lifting capacity of up to 124 tonnes, will enable the port to service vessels of up to 100,000 tonnes.

Additionally, the port has commenced the second phase of the Quay 21 development project. This phase involves building a new container storage yard, procuring the electric ERTG cranes, and completing supporting electrical infrastructure, including a transformation station and substation — one of which has already been commissioned.

Through this large-scale modernisation effort, Ashdod Port aims to strengthen its competitiveness, support sustainable operations, and meet future trade demands with greater efficiency.
