The Assam Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has approved a series of employment, agriculture, industry, and infrastructure measures, including support for an integrated shipyard and container shipping line project at Guwahati that is expected to boost inland water transport and regional logistics.

The Cabinet cleared the re-appointment of 57 Junior Engineers (Civil) under Regulation 3(f) in the PWD, citing their experience since 2019 as critical for ongoing project execution across the state. It also sanctioned land allotment under Mission Basundhara to 326 beneficiaries and granted administrative approval for a new College of Agriculture at Patharkandi in Sribhumi district with an investment of ₹122.22 crore, aimed at strengthening higher education and farm-sector support in the Barak Valley.

Significantly for the maritime and logistics ecosystem, the Cabinet approved customised incentives under the Industrial and Investment Policy of Assam, 2019, for M/s Bharat A to Z Private Limited to set up an integrated shipyard and container shipping line at Dharapur, Guwahati, with a proposed investment of ₹475 crore. The project is expected to generate around 900 direct jobs and substantial indirect employment, and will leverage the National Waterway-2 (Brahmaputra) for cargo movement, enhancing multimodal connectivity for Northeast trade.
