Atlantica Shipping has re-entered the dry bulk market with the addition of a Kamsarmax bulk carrier, signalling a renewed focus on the sector after a short phase as an offshore-only operator.

The Oslo-headquartered owner has taken delivery of the 2011-built Kamsarmax Atlantica Star, which has now joined its fleet. The 80,300-dwt vessel will be technically managed by Greek dry bulk specialist AM Nomikos. While Atlantica has not named the seller, market participants indicate the ship was previously owned by India’s Great Eastern Shipping and was agreed for sale late last year. Industry sources put the transaction value in the range of $14m–$15m.

The purchase reflects a further strategic realignment by Atlantica, which had streamlined its portfolio in recent years. After stepping away from container shipping, the company disposed of its remaining boxships, including the Atlantica Power, which was handed over to new owners in January following its sale in November with an attached charter. Another container vessel, Atlantica Pioneer, was also sold towards the end of 2025, likewise with employment in place.

With the delivery of Atlantica Star, Atlantica is rebuilding its dry bulk exposure, focusing on the Kamsarmax segment. The move follows the sale of its last Supramax bulkers in the latter half of 2024 and marks a clear return to bulk shipping as part of the company’s evolving fleet strategy.
