India’s automobile exports surged 22% year-on-year in the April–June quarter, reaching 1,457,461 units across all segments, up from 1,192,566 units during the same period last fiscal, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). The growth was fueled by record shipments of passenger vehicles, which hit a quarterly peak of 204,330 units—marking a 13% rise from 180,483 units in Q1 last year. Strong performance in two-wheelers and commercial vehicles also contributed to the overall export momentum.

Export momentum in the segment was propelled by steady demand across key global markets, with notable growth in regions like the Middle East and Latin America, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). The overall uptick was further supported by renewed activity in neighbouring markets such as Sri Lanka and Nepal, expanding opportunities in Japan, and rising shipments facilitated by free trade agreements, including those with Australia.

The country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki led the passenger vehicle exports in Q1 with dispatch of 96,181 units, up over 37 per cent compared to 69,962 units in April-June quarter last fiscal.
