The VOC Port Authority, which manages the VOC Port in Thoothukudi, has unveiled plans to establish a five-star beach resort adjacent to the port guest house. According to a recently issued tender, the Authority intends to lease out the port land near the guest house for a period of 30 years to facilitate the development of this luxury resort. The initiative is driven by the rapid industrial growth in the vicinity of the port, making it more convenient for officials and business visitors to stay closer to key projects, rather than commuting from hotels located around 10 km away in Thoothukudi town. Prominent hotels currently operating in the town include GRT, SRM, Satya Resorts, and DSF Grand Plaza.
On the other hand, Vietnam’s VinFast has established a major electric vehicle manufacturing facility near VOC Port, with its inauguration anticipated later this month. In addition, the port town is poised for a surge in industrial investments, with projects collectively valued at over ₹41,000 crore in the pipeline. According to VOC Port sources, key developments include ACME Green Hydrogen & Chemical (₹27,000 crore), Green Infr Renewable Energy Farms Pvt Ltd (₹8,460 crore), Amplus Ganges Solar (₹6,000 crore), and Renew E-fuels Pvt Ltd (₹400 crore).
Vikram Solar and Tata Solar—leading manufacturers of solar panels and related accessories—also have a presence in the region. Additionally, the development of a furniture park at SIPCOT, the establishment of a windmill blade manufacturing facility, and the anticipated arrival of industries in shipbuilding and automobile accessories near the port have further underscored the demand for a five-star hotel close to VOC Port.
