Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) has acquired 60.063 hectares of land in Madhya Pradesh to establish a rolling stock manufacturing facility in the state. The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Dr Mohan Yadav, handed over the land allotment letter to BEML CMD Shantanu Roy for setting up the new unit at Umeria in Raisen district.

This facility will focus on manufacturing rolling stock and metro coaches for upcoming railway and urban mobility projects in both Madhya Pradesh and across India. This strategic expansion will not only strengthen BEML’s manufacturing presence but is also poised to drive regional industrial growth and generate significant employment opportunities, added BEML. At the same event, BEML also flagged off its 2,100th metro coach, built for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) via Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

Manufactured at its Bengaluru facility, the coach features driverless technology and complies with Grade of Automation 4 (GoA4) standards. Equipped for Unattended Train Operation (UTO), it includes safety systems and smart features. BEML’s journey in the metro segment began with the RS1 project for DMRC in the early 2000s, and it has since supplied coaches for Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Mumbai, and several other Indian cities.
