Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna announced plans for India’s largest railway terminal at Yelahanka in northern Bengaluru, with a massive investment of ₹5,754 crore to transform urban mobility and freight handling.
The mega terminal will feature 17 platforms, advanced multimodal integration with metro, airport, and road links, and capacity for 100 million passengers annually, easing congestion at Bengaluru’s existing stations like Yesvantpur and KSR Bengaluru.
This project aligns with India’s rail modernization under PM Modi’s vision, incorporating green tech, AI-driven operations, and last-mile connectivity to support Bengaluru’s booming logistics and tech-driven economy, including cargo from nearby ports like Chennai and Krishnapatnam.
Somanna highlighted job creation and reduced transit times as key benefits, positioning Yelahanka as a national benchmark for sustainable rail infrastructure. Implementation is slated to begin soon, boosting multimodal supply chains in southern India.
