To strengthen its sustainable logistics initiative, Bolloré Logistics India is deploying a fleet of trucks running on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) at its facilities in Mumbai, Bangalore & Chennai.

Four CNG trucks are currently carrying out intra-urban distribution operations. The fleet is expected to expand to other sites by 2023. To date, the trucks have covered more than 35,000 km saving 6.5 tons of CO2 emissions compared to diesel trucks.

With a total available capacity of 9.5 metric tonne & 42 cubic meter per day, these trucks cater to distribution of high-technology products & luxury goods over the total area of these three cities. A CNG truck reduces “Well-to-Wheel” (WTW) greenhouse gas emissions from 5% to 16% according to various studies. CNG presents way lower NOx and Particulate Matter emissions than the diesel truck used today, thus contributing to reduced urban air pollution.

“Having low carbon impact transportation plans has become essential for road transportation. Bolloré Logistics in India is actively pushing to invest in more sustainable trucking solutions.” said Pranay MESHRAM, Road Transport Manager, India.

Another significant initiative taken up by Road Freight team in India is regarding order optimization. Thanks to a consolidation algorithm developed with the help of a technology partner, more than 270 orders have been consolidated saving 120 vehicles and 45,000 km, resulting in greenhouse gas emission reduction of 9 tons, in the states of Maharashtra & Gujarat alone, in western India. This program is being extended across all branches by Q1 of 2023 & is expected to result in emission reduction by 20 tons per year.

In line with Bolloré Logistics’ CSR Program, Powering Sustainable Logistics, Bolloré Logistics India will continue developing feasible eco-friendly solutions to deploy in its domestic market and work with customers to achieve a sustainable supply chain.
