Visakhapatnam Port Authority has achieved a landmark milestone by successfully berthing MV Graceous, a 292-metre Cape-sized bulk carrier carrying over 100,000 tonnes of coal, at its EQ-1 berth in the inner harbour.

The vessel, measuring 292 metres in length with a 45-metre beam and 12.2-metre draft, arrived at the port’s EQ-1 berth earlier this week, marking the first time a Cape-sized bulk carrier has been accommodated at Visakhapatnam Port’s inner harbour. MV Graceous, built in 2017 and flying the Hong Kong flag, is carrying 100,198 metric tonnes of coal destined for power generation and industrial use in eastern India.

This berthing achievement represents a significant expansion of the port’s operational capabilities, as VPA now operates more than one berth compliant with Cape-sized vessel requirements. The development substantially enhances the port’s capacity to handle large bulk carriers and strengthens its overall cargo handling infrastructure.

The successful berthing and operation of MV Graceous demonstrates Visakhapatnam Port’s growing prominence as a key gateway for large vessels on India’s east coast. The port continues to handle diverse cargo including iron ore, coal, containers and other commodities, with this milestone opening new opportunities for bulk cargo imports.
