A greenfield national highway that would link the Nizampatnam fishing harbor with the proposed Amaravati Outer Ring Road (ORR) has received in-principle clearance from the Union government. This move is anticipated to increase marine exports and tourism initiatives in the area.
Following several months of intensive research, the Center’s chosen consulting firm has suggested four potential highway alignments, accounting for distance, economic viability, and land acquisition expenses. The estimated cost of the proposed 48-kilometer greenfield highway is ₹1,400 crore, of which ₹300 crore will go towards purchasing land and the remaining sum will be used to build the roadway and bridges.
The consulting firm has suggested building a Rail Over Bridge (ROB) at the railway track and high-level bridges at the canal crossing places. The highway will need to cross the river and canals at least 24 times, including a railway track close to Tsundur. The increase in marine product exports will help local fishermen achieve higher pricing, the initiative is anticipated to be a game-changer for the development of the underdeveloped coastal area and fishermen.
Additionally, the proposed roadway will increase tourism in the area by providing better access to picturesque tourist destinations along the beaches of Bapatla and Suryalanka. The Narakoduru junction near Guntur to Nizampatnam route is anticipated to be the most practical choice when the Center grants its final approval for the project in a few weeks, according to sources. A no-objection certificate for the highway’s construction on its property close to Nizampatnam harbor has already been granted by the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board (APMB).
