Chattogram customs to clear cargo 24/7, including holidays

Customs clearance and assessment will continue through weekends and public holidays to prevent delays in releasing consignments landed at the port.

Chattogram Custom House will process imported cargo 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including Fridays, Saturdays and public holidays, under an order issued on September 13.

The order, signed by Assistant Commissioner Sharif Mohammad Al Amin on behalf of the customs commissioner, is intended to keep the country’s import-export trade moving and its supply chains uninterrupted and to allow consignments landed at the port to be cleared quickly and without complications or delay.

Customs clearance and assessment will continue through the weekend and general public holidays, reducing the chance that the process stalls on a holiday and adds time to the release of goods.

Copies of the order have been sent to the Chittagong Port Authority, Bangladesh Bank, the Chattogram Customs Bond Commissionerate, BEPZA, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate and the National Board of Revenue, among other agencies.

Copies have also gone to leading business bodies including the FBCCI, the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the Chittagong Metropolitan Chamber, the Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the BGMEA, the BKMEA, the Chittagong C&F Agents Association, the Bangladesh Inland Container Depot Association, the Bangladesh Shipping Agents’ Association and the Bangladesh Freight Forwarders Association.
