COCHIN SHIPYARD, ENGINEERS INDIA INK MOU FOR LNG CARRIERS

Giving a big boost to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious Make in India programme, Cochin Shipyard and Engineers India have joined hands for design and construction of small scale LNG carriers.

Cochin Shipyard, a Miniratna central public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Shipping, and Engineers India Limited inked the MoU here on October 16 in this regard, officials said.

“This initiative, under the ambit of Make in India programme of the government of India, aims at joint design and building small scale LNG Carriers,” a release issued by the Cochin Shipyard said today.

The MoU aims to leverage EILs strengths in the process and systems engineering and CSLs strengths in ship design and construction.

This initiative is also in alignment with the Government of India’s vision of Sagarmala – a strategic and customer oriented initiative to modernise India’s Ports  and Inland Water Ways Development initiatives.

“The MoU shall create an LNG value chain ecosystem to cater to the coastal and inland water transport segment in the Indian sub continent,” the release said.

The MoUs scope also covers the mutual cooperation for the vendor development, training, certification process of skilled manpower between the organisations.

CSL has also acquired licence for the construction of membrane technology of Gaztransport Technigaz, France, for the cargo containment systems of large LNG vessels.
