The establishment of Colombo Eastern Container Terminal (Private) Limited, a limited liability business, to oversee and run the Eastern Container Terminal (ECT) at the Colombo Port has been authorized by the Sri Lankan Cabinet. The action comes after the Colombo South Port Project’s February 2021 decision to develop the Eastern and Western terminals.

The new business, which intends to increase economic returns, improve operational efficiency, and guarantee competition with private terminal operators, will remain fully owned by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA). The Cabinet last week accepted the company’s establishment request, which was put out by the Minister of Ports.
