The Container Corporation of India (CONCOR), in strategic collaboration with Indian Railways, has launched a new End-to-End Parcel Service, offering a greener, more cost-effective alternative to road transport. The service’s inaugural run from Mumbai to Kolkata on August 7, 2025, marks the start of a dedicated, rail-based logistics solution aimed at bridging critical supply chain gaps and boosting efficiency for e-commerce players and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Leveraging the Indian Railways’ reliable Parcel Van (VP) network, the service offers fixed transit schedules for predictable, on-time delivery—an edge over road transport, which often faces traffic congestion and delays. Customers will benefit from value-added features such as advance booking, real-time tracking, and doorstep pickup and delivery. Designed to consolidate small and mid-sized consignments, the service provides a single-window logistics solution that replaces the previously fragmented and costlier process.
The initiative also advances India’s net-zero carbon targets. Rail transport consumes less fuel and emits far fewer greenhouse gases per tonne-kilometre than road transport. By shifting a portion of long-haul freight from highways to railways, CONCOR and Indian Railways will cut carbon emissions, reduce fossil fuel use, and ease air pollution in major urban hubs—while relieving pressure on overburdened road networks.
For MSMEs and e-commerce vendors, the service offers affordable nationwide reach, enabling small businesses to compete more effectively without prohibitive logistics costs. It also supports women-led enterprises and small-scale producers, promoting inclusive growth and equitable access to markets across the country.
This launch demonstrates how public sector partnerships can tackle key challenges of modern urban life—sustainability, congestion, and economic fairness. By combining CONCOR’s logistics expertise with Indian Railways’ vast reach, the initiative sets a blueprint for economic growth rooted in environmental responsibility and social equity—ensuring progress benefits all sections of society.
