November 02, 2020: September’s throughput at India’s JN Port Trust was only 5% below September 2019 levels, reflecting the steady recovery in economic activity in the country. The port handled 380,384 teu compared with 400,365 teu in the same month of last year, and throughput was 7.8% higher than in August when 352,735 teu was recorded. According to the port authority “This steady surge in cargo handling month-on-month indicates early signs of recovery which is very significant during the ongoing pandemic that has affected business across India.”

Nonetheless JNPT only handled 1.93 million teu during the full half year ending September 30th, down significantly from 2.57 million teu in the same period during the previous year.

The biggest container handling port in India JNPT accounts for around 52% of the total containerised cargo volume across the major ports of India.
