COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers’ vessel M.V. YUAN FU has departed from Lvsi Port in Jiangsu Province, China, carrying the first batch of wind power equipment for Georgia’s 206 MW Ruisi wind power project. The shipment, consisting of five complete sets of wind turbines, is expected to reach Georgia within a month.
Located in Gori, central Georgia, the Ruisi project is the country’s largest single-capacity wind power development. Once operational, it will generate clean electricity sufficient to meet around 10% of Georgia’s household demand, while reducing annual carbon emissions by an estimated 400,000 tonnes.
For the project, COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers will deliver 33 wind turbine sets in five batches. Each voyage covers more than 8,600 nautical miles—roughly one-third of the Earth’s circumference—and sets a record for the largest single-vessel transportation volume of wind power equipment in the Black Sea region.
To handle the oversized cargo, the company has deployed multipurpose heavy-lift vessels with double-deck and flat-deck configurations, well-suited for transporting rotor blades and other large turbine components. The project features GW171 turbines with rotor diameters of 171 metres, equal to the combined wingspan of two Airbus A380 aircraft.
Earlier this year, COSCO SHIPPING also celebrated the naming of OCEAN INSPIRATION in Shanghai, highlighting the expansion of its specialised fleet for global renewable energy logistics.
