Hyderabad-based Mahati Port, the concessionaire for Cuddalore Port, has applied for statutory approvals to start a Rs 650 crore expansion project. The development covers 146 acres and targets 11.48 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) capacity.
Project Components
Plans include multipurpose and container berths, capital dredging, and a 34-acre shipbuilding/repair yard for Handymax and Panamax vessels. These upgrades will expand Tamil Nadu’s maritime infrastructure.
Strategic Role
The long-delayed project gains momentum, boosting regional cargo handling, logistics, and ship repair capabilities. It supports India’s port network growth under Sagarmala initiatives.
