Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) and Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) have signed an MoU to set up a Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Shipbuilding Technology at the CUSAT campus. CSL will fund the project with an investment of ₹3.53 crore.

The centre aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry by focusing on software development, skill building, upskilling, and digitisation in shipbuilding. Equipped with state-of-the-art computing systems and advanced marine software, it will support research in Naval Architecture, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and related domains.

Officials said the initiative will foster innovation in ship design, shipbuilding practices, and advanced ship performance analysis, strengthening India’s capacity for sustainable maritime technology development.
