Deendayal Port Authority has successfully facilitated the shipment of LNG storage tanks for a terminal development project in the Bahamas — a complex project cargo operation involving oversized, heavy-lift equipment that required specialised lifting systems, customised vessel loading arrangements, and detailed pre-departure planning to execute safely and on schedule. The movement represents a materially different type of cargo than the oil, fertilisers, and containers that make up the bulk of Deendayal Port’s 160.11 MMT throughput, and underlines the port’s growing profile as a gateway for India’s engineering and industrial equipment exports.

LNG storage tanks for terminal projects are among the most demanding project cargo categories: they are large-diameter, thermally insulated pressure vessels that require careful transportation engineering to prevent structural stress during loading, sea passage, and discharge. The fact that a major international LNG terminal project in the Bahamas is sourcing its storage infrastructure via an Indian port reflects both the growing capability of Indian industrial manufacturers to produce large-scale energy infrastructure components and Deendayal Port’s investment in heavy-lift and breakbulk handling facilities that can accommodate oversized cargo. The successful execution is commercially significant for the engineering export ambitions being advanced under India’s expanding manufacturing and export push.
