Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, has set a new national record for single-day cargo handling after moving 9,63,951 metric tonnes (MT) in a 24-hour period.
The latest performance surpassed the port’s previous record of 9,03,904 MT, set on 7 September 2026. DPA announced the new milestone on 2 October.
How much did the port improve on its previous record?
The latest single-day volume was 60,047 MT higher than the previous benchmark.
This represents an increase of approximately 6.6% in less than four weeks, marking another improvement in DPA’s cargo-handling performance.
What other milestones has Deendayal Port achieved?
DPA has recorded several operational milestones during 2026.
On 5 September, the port reported 12.7 million tonnes of transhipment cargo handled through ship-to-ship (STS) operations up to 1 September.
The port has also reported handling 70.03 million tonnes of cargo during the financial year so far. According to official data, DPA reached the milestone 32 days earlier than in the previous financial year, with cargo volumes increasing 23.02% year-on-year.
Why is Kandla’s performance significant?
Deendayal Port is India’s largest major port by cargo volume and serves as an important gateway for the bulk and liquid cargo requirements of northern and western India.
Its cargo mix includes crude oil, petroleum products, coal, fertilisers and agricultural commodities. The latest single-day record, along with increased STS transhipment and overall cargo growth, reflects higher cargo-handling activity at the port.
DPA is also pursuing capacity expansion under the government’s Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, with the objective of strengthening port infrastructure and supporting the growth of India’s maritime logistics network.
