Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) recently held a business development meeting with JSW Murbe Port Pvt. Ltd. to explore the development of rail connectivity at select stations on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC). The discussions centred on stations located between New Palghar and New Saphale, proposed under Schedule I of the Gati Shakti Multi Modal Cargo Terminal (GCT) Policy.
The meeting was chaired by Shobhit Bhatnagar, Director (Operations & Business Development), DFCCIL, and focused on strengthening port–rail integration to enable faster, more efficient movement of cargo along the WDFC. The proposed connectivity is expected to play a key role in enhancing hinterland access for JSW Murbe Port while contributing to the overall efficiency and capacity utilisation of the dedicated freight corridor.
Senior DFCCIL officials participated in the deliberations, including S. P. Verma, Group General Manager (Business Development & Business Analytics); Nitin Bansal, General Manager (Operations); and Roshan Singh, General Manager (Operations). Officers from DFCCIL’s Mumbai and Ahmedabad units also joined the meeting through video conferencing, reflecting the cross-zonal coordination required for the project.
During the interaction, both sides discussed technical, operational and commercial aspects related to the proposed rail linkage, as well as its alignment with the objectives of the Gati Shakti initiative. The policy aims to promote multimodal logistics infrastructure by encouraging private participation and seamless integration between railways, ports and industrial hubs.
The proposed rail connectivity is expected to support efficient evacuation of bulk and containerised cargo from the port, reduce logistics costs, and improve transit times. It also aligns with DFCCIL’s broader strategy of leveraging the WDFC as a high-capacity freight artery to decongest existing rail routes and boost India’s logistics competitiveness.
DFCCIL and JSW Murbe Port expressed their intent to continue technical evaluations and stakeholder consultations as the proposal moves forward.
