In a significant step toward decarbonizing terminal operations, DP World and Einride have introduced a state-of-the-art electric freight solution at Jebel Ali Port. The first wave of the electric fleet is currently operating 24/7 and is expected to transport more than 204,000 20-foot containers a year, helping DP World’s efforts to hasten the shift to more environmentally friendly operations.
The initiative is part of a landmark agreement between DP World and Einride agreed in May 2024 to electrify inter-terminal container flows at Jebel Ali Port, the largest seaport in the Middle East. It is in line with DP World’s larger sustainability plan, which also calls for reducing emissions through creative collaborations and electrifying its fleet of internal terminal vehicles (ITVs). In comparison to diesel operations, the project will lower 14,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) yearly, supporting DP World’s science-based goals (SBTi) and goal of making international trade more intelligent and environmentally friendly.
