DP World has expanded its India coastal shipping network with the addition of a new 2,500-plus TEU container vessel, strengthening domestic cargo movement along the country’s coastline. The move is aimed at improving connectivity between key Indian ports and giving shippers a more reliable alternative to long-haul road transport.

The vessel, DP World Indus, has been added to the company’s Marine Services business under Shipping Solutions. Industry reports say the network now spans 14 Indian ports and operates a dedicated fleet of 10 vessels.

Support For Coastal Trade

The new vessel is expected to help move containers between India’s manufacturing hubs, industrial centres and consumption markets more efficiently. By shifting more cargo to coastal shipping, DP World also expects to ease pressure on road networks and support a more sustainable logistics model.

In 2025, DP World’s coastal shipping business handled more than 473,000 TEUs, underlining the scale already reached by the service. The latest addition is intended to build on that momentum and deepen the company’s role in domestic cargo movement.

Backing India’s Maritime Push

The expansion comes at a time when India is looking to strengthen its maritime and logistics infrastructure as part of its wider trade competitiveness agenda. DP World said the move aligns with its broader strategy to support India’s supply chains through investment in ports, marine services and logistics solutions.

The company’s coastal network is also designed to offer customers greater predictability and service reliability in domestic container transport. That makes the addition of DP World Indus significant not just for port connectivity, but also for building more resilient freight flows across the country.
