DP World has signed a 10-year extension of its partnership with German shipping major Hapag-Lloyd at Brazil’s Port of Santos, solidifying a collaboration that began in 2014. The renewed agreement ensures Hapag-Lloyd’s vessels will continue calling at DP World’s multipurpose terminal — the largest container gateway in Latin America — well into the next decade.
The deal aligns with DP World’s ongoing $190 million expansion project at Santos, which will extend the terminal’s quay to 1,290 metres and increase annual handling capacity to 1.7 million TEUs by 2026. The terminal handled a record 1.25 million TEUs in 2024, marking a 14% year-on-year increase.
According to DP World, the upgrades will enable the facility to handle larger vessels and improve turnaround efficiency for major clients, including Hapag-Lloyd. The extension follows a similar long-term agreement DP World signed earlier this year with Maersk, reflecting its strategy to deepen partnerships with key global carriers across Brazil.
