Deutsche Bahn AG has completed the €14.3 billion sale of its logistics arm, DB Schenker, to Danish transport giant DSV. The move marks a strategic shift for Deutsche Bahn, allowing the group to concentrate on its core rail operations while using the full proceeds to significantly cut its debt.
The sale of DB Schenker to DSV was completed ahead of schedule, following final antitrust approvals from both the European Union and the United States. DSV, now the official owner, has outlined its ambition to build a global transport and logistics powerhouse through the acquisition. As part of its long-term strategy, the Danish firm plans to invest approximately €1 billion in Germany over the next three to five years.
DB began the open, transparent and non-discriminatory process to sell DB Schenker in accordance with EU law in December 2023. DSV was selected in the competitive sale process because its offer was clearly the most financially advantageous for Deutsche Bahn AG. DSV and Deutsche Bahn signed the purchase agreement in September 2024. DB had also completed the sale of DB Arriva, its subsidiary for European regional and local transport, in Summer 2024.
