The proposed expansion is expected to strengthen Ennore’s role as a key gateway for containerized trade on India’s east coast while adding capacity to handle rising cargo volumes. It is aimed at easing demand pressure by bringing in modern facilities for larger vessels and higher throughput.
Industry participants see the project as a strategic move to improve supply chain efficiency and support India’s growing international trade. Several major shipping lines are also said to be evaluating opportunities linked to the new terminal, signalling confidence in Ennore’s long-term potential.
The expanded terminal is expected to attract more services, improve global connectivity and give exporters and importers greater logistics flexibility. It will also support cargo growth from sectors such as manufacturing, automotive, engineering goods, electronics and consumer products.
The project could help reduce congestion at existing ports while creating additional capacity for future trade expansion. It is also likely to generate economic benefits through new investment, jobs and stronger regional supply-chain integration.
