[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Exports from Indore special economic zone (SEZ) in Pithampur, one of the largest industrial hubs of the state, surged 45 per cent in the financial year 2016-2017 led by growth in pharmaceutical products.

The SEZ recorded an export of Rs 8,428 crore in the fiscal year 2016-2017 as against Rs 5,800 a year ago, says data from the development commissioner, SEZ.

Indore’s SEZ development commissioner J M Gupta said, “Exports remained very good from the region mainly due to some leading pharmaceutical firms. Many units have become fully operational and exports have risen tremendously from these firms.”

Of the 49 registered companies in SEZ, Pithampur, 42 are operational as on date. Besides pharmaceuticals, SEZ also houses some top firms such as Cummins Technologies, SRF Limited and Pratibha Syntex among others.

Fresh 15 letters of approvals have been issued to companies in the financial year 2016-2017 that ended on March 31. Most of the upcoming companies are pharmaceutical firms.

“With rising exports and expansion in production activities employment opportunities also increase at both the SEZs,” said Gupta. According to the government data, Pithampur SEZ gave employment to 19,209 people as on 2016-2017.

The exports from Crystal IT Park also rose by over nine per cent in FY 2016-17 to Rs 200 crore, the government data showed.

The Crystal IT Park under the SEZ scheme is spread over 7.99 hectares and over 20 information technology units have been allotted land. As of now 12 units are operational in the Crystal IT Park.

Gupta expects exports in coming years to jump further because several new companies are ready to set their operations in the region and existing units are expanding.

Crystal IT Park gives employment to 1,565 people. An investment of 198.31 crore has been made in the Crystal IT Park so far, as per the government data.

Buoyed by the success of the Crystal IT Park in Indore, the industry department has decided to come up with a third IT Park on the same campus to invite more IT companies in the city.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
