At an inter-ministerial meeting chaired by Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping, it has been decided to make electronic toll tags mandatory for all vehicles contracted by government departments, to facilitate the smooth movement of cargo.
FASTag, as it is known, is a simple-to-use reloadable tag that enables automatic deduction of toll charges and will forego the need to stop at toll plazas for cash transactions, thereby saving time.
