For the first time in its history, the Mongla Port has welcomed a heavy-lift vessel — the Netherlands-flagged ‘MV Jumbo Kinetic’. Renowned globally for its heavy-lift capabilities, Jumbo Kinetic is equipped with two massive cranes, each capable of lifting up to 1,500 tonnes, he said. Combined, the vessel can handle a total lifting capacity of 3,000 tonnes simultaneously.
This is the first time such a high-capacity heavy-lift vessel has docked at Mongla Port. Previously, vessels that came had crane capacities of up to 1,000 tonnes. Currently, the vessel is being loaded with four anchorage boats and one crane for re-export.
Each anchorage boat weighs around 440 tonnes, and the crane weighs 50 tonnes. These heavy components were previously used in dredging operations in the Pashur Channel at the port. Once the loading is complete, the ship is scheduled to depart for China from Anchorage No 7 in Harbaria.
