This is as per a press note issued by the Mongla Port Authority (MPA) recently even if this surge in activity reflects the port’s growing significance in the country’s economic landscape.

The MPA credited government initiatives aimed at augmenting the port’s capacity and navigational capabilities for this achievement.

Among the notable vessels that anchored at Mongla Port were the Liberian-flagged Maersk Hai Phong, Singaporean-flagged Kota Tenaga, MV Kota Rancak, MV Maersk Villa D Vostok, MV Maersk Queen, MV Maersk Chattagram, and MV Maersk Dhaka.

The Maersk Hai Phong reportedly made two visits to the port within the month.

These ships transported a diverse range of goods, including fabrics, machinery, apples, cycle parts, electrical goods, clinkers, fertilisers, and more.

The MPA emphasised that Mongla Port’s progress is steadily advancing, thanks to concerted government efforts and the port authority’s initiatives.

The increasing influx of both local and foreign commercial vessels underscores the port’s growing prominence. Previously, navigational challenges in the Pasur River hindered larger ships from docking at Mongla Port.

However, capital dredging has mitigated this issue, facilitating smoother operations.

Deputy director of the Mongla Port Authority, Md Makruzzaman, hailed the port as a beacon of economic optimism for the country even as he noted that over 55 development projects, including 14 aimed at enhancing the port’s capacity, have been completed by the government. Additionally, port utilisation is experiencing a robust annual growth rate of around 20 per cent signalling positive momentum for Mongla Port’s role in driving economic progress.
