French liner and logistics major CMA CGM has temporarily moved a number of its vessels to designated areas of safety in the Atlantic as severe storms disrupt navigation along parts of the European and North African coastline. The company said exceptional weather conditions affecting waters off France, Spain and Morocco, particularly in the Bay of Biscay, have prompted precautionary actions to safeguard crews and cargo.
As part of its response, CMA CGM has ordered ships transiting the affected corridor from southern Morocco to the approaches of the English Channel to hold in safer positions, including in the Seine Bay and near Gibraltar. Rival container carriers Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd have also warned of weather-related disruption to cargo flows across Europe this week due to storms and snow.
