Gateway Distriparks Ltd (GDL) expects to quadruple domestic cargo volumes within two years, driven by a 15-year agreement with the Sawariya Group of Industries for its upcoming Multi Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Ankleshwar, Gujarat.
Domestic cargo services will begin immediately, while EXIM and Inland Container Depot (ICD) operations are slated to start by April 2026. Ankleshwar currently has only one other ICD, which is already running at full capacity, creating significant potential to shift cargo from road to rail—especially for shipments bound for JNPT. EXIM volumes are projected to reach 5,000 TEUs per month in the initial years, with potential to grow to 10,000 TEUs over time.
The Ankleshwar project, unlike GDL’s northern operations, is expected to yield an EBITDA of around ₹3,000 per TEU. Operating on an asset-light model, the venture will use leased trains and containers and follow an EBITDA-sharing arrangement.
